Automobile directions to Boston College

Coming from West on Mass Pike (I-90)

Take Exit 14, and after paying toll, keep left and follow sign reading "North, 30, New Hampshire, Maine, Points North." Look shortly for and follow sign reading "Exit 24, 30, Newton, Wayland." At end of ramp turn right following sign reading "30 Newton, Boston." You are now on Route 30 (a.k.a. Commonwealth Avenue). It is approximately 5.2 miles to the Boston College main gate (on the right).

Coming from East on Mass Pike (I-90)

Take Exit 17 (Newton/Watertown). After leaving exit-ramp, continue straight, avoiding a shallow left that takes you back to the pike. After a very short distance, take a curving left at the end of the Tara Hotel grounds, following a sign reading "Newton Ctre., Boston." (Avoid West Newton.) Loop around the Tara Hotel (crossing over the pike), and on the other side look immediately for sign reading "Newton Centre Right." Take the next right onto Centre Street. Take Centre Street to Commonwealth Avenue (Route 30, but not so labeled here); it is the 4th traffic light and about 1.4 miles. Turn left on Commonwealth Ave. The Boston College main gate will be about 1.2 miles on your right.

Coming from North on Route 128 (I-95)

Take Exit 24 "30, Newton, Wayland" and at end of looping ramp go right following sign reading "30 East, Newton, Boston." You are now on Commonwealth Avenue (Route 30). It is approximately 5.2 miles to the Boston College main gate (on the right).

Coming from South on Route 128 (I-95)

Take Exit 21, "Route 16, Newton, Wellsley". At top of exit loop go right at sign reading "East 16, W. Newton, Waban." Drive until Route 30 (Commonwealth Avenue) -- about 0.9 miles -- and go right at sign reading "East 30, Newton Ctr." The Boston College main gate will be about 3.6 miles on your right.

or

Take exit following sign reading, "Exits 23, 24, 25." Keep to left following signs to Route 30. Take Exit 24 "30, Newton, Wayland" and, at end of ramp, go right following sign reading "30 East, Newton." You are now on Commonwealth Avenue (Route 30). It is approximately 5.2 miles to the Boston College main gate (on the right).

Coming from South on Route I-95 or Route 3

Exit onto Route I-95 (Route 128) North and follow directions above for Coming from South on 128 (I-95). [If coming on I-95, avoid getting onto Route 93 to Boston at this juncture.]

Coming from North on Route I-93 or Route 1

Exit onto Route I-95 (Route 128) South and follow directions above for Coming from North on 128 (I-95).

Coming from Logan Airport

On leaving airport grounds, follow signs to Boston/Sumner Tunnel, avoiding turns to the Ted Williams Tunnel, to Lynn, and to MassPort Shuttle stop. (Note: sometimes under heavy traffic conditions, you will be routed temporarily onto the road to Lynn -- don't worry if this happens, just look for the first opportunity to turn turn back the other way, relax, and enjoy it -- this is Boston at its best.) Go through the Sumner Tunnel (toll: $2.00). On leaving tunnel, go right and follow sign to Downtown/Mass Pike. Be careful not to go on upramp to Storrow Drive. Loop constantly leftward under overpass (the Expressway) following signs to Expressway 93 South and Mass Pike. Ascend ramp to Expressway going South. Once on Expressway, go 1.2 miles and take Exit 20 to Mass Pike west (route 90). Then follow directions above for "Coming from East on Mass Pike (I-90)".

Going to Logan Airport

For those who know Boston, there are shorter, and possibly faster, ways than the one described here, but this is by far the least fussy. From Boston College go west (left out of main gate) on Commonwealth Avenue (route 30) for 1.2 miles to Centre Street. Go right on Centre Street and travel for 1.4 miles till it ends. Go right and follow signs (almost immediately) to Route 90 East (Mass Pike/Boston). Enter the Mass Pike and follow signs to Logan Airport. Go through the tolls (about 2.8 miles on Pike -- $0.50) and continue following signs to Logan Airport. In so doing, you will automatically merge from the Turnpike to the expressway. Take Exit 24 to Logan Airport/Callahan Tunnel. Go through the tunnel and, upon leaving it, continue to follow signs to Logan, but be careful to avoid right turn for "local traffic." It is but a short distance to enter the airport grounds.
