Conference sessions will mainly be held in Fulton Hall, on BC's Middle Campus, with on-campus accommodations in 90 St. Thomas More, Gabelli, and Vouté Halls, which lie between Middle Campus and the "T" terminus near Lower Campus. All campus buildings used for conference events, dining and housing are within 5 minutes' walk of one another (although not at the same altitude; the parking garage near O'Neill Library has an elevator connecting Lower Campus and Middle Campus levels).
Free parking on campus is available during the conference, but if you're staying on campus and coming to Boston by plane, train, or bus, you could avoid high rental car rates and taxes by using public transportation and taking the "T".
The campus is served by two rapid transit lines of the MBTA's "Green Line": the "B" (Boston College) branch (which terminates across the street from the campus), and the Reservoir and Chestnut Hill stops on the "D" (Riverside) branch. The "D" line operates on a dedicated roadbed, while the "B" line is a streetcar, or trolley. Both lines emanate from downtown Boston, where they connect with the "T" Blue Line (to Logan International Airport) and Red Line (to South Station, for Amtrak from New York, Philadelphia, Washington; also serves intercity buses).
Each registrant will receive a full-size map of the Boston area and public transit alternatives, courtesy of the MBTA, in their registration packet.
From Logan: Leave your air terminal at ground level and look for the MassPort Shuttle
stop nearby. These shuttles are free and run about every 3 minutes. Take
the shuttle to the MBTA Blue Line station at the edge of the airport. Buy a token
for $0.85 and go downstairs. Take the Blue
Line Inbound and get off at the Government Center stop. Go upstairs to the
Green Line Outbound and transfer (free) to a Boston College "B line" trolley. There are several
different Green Line trolleys that stop here, so be sure you get one marked
Boston College. This car will take you to the Boston College terminal,
which is the end of the line and just across the street and slightly
downhill from your on-campus housing. Plan on about 1-1/2 hours from your
airline terminal to Boston College.
To Logan: Go to the Boston College MBTA station, which is across and slightly down the street from your on-campus housing. The trolley costs $0.85, either a token or exact change (no dollar bills accepted). Take the trolley to the Government Center station and transfer (free) to the Blue Line Outbound. Take the Blue Line to the Airport station. Check to see which MassPort Shuttle goes to your airline (there are several different shuttle buses; they are full size blue and white coaches) and take it to your terminal. These shuttles are free and run about every 3 minutes. Plan on about 1-1/2 hours from Boston College to your airline terminal check-in, and remember that check-in times are well in advance of flight times due to security.
From Amtrak South Station: Take the MBTA Red Line (at South Station). Buy a token for $0.85 and go downstairs. Take the Red Line in the direction of Alewife and get off at the Park Street stop (only two stops from South Station). Go upstairs to the Green Line Outbound and transfer (free) to a Boston College "B line" trolley. There are several different Green Line trolleys that stop here, so be sure you get one marked Boston College. This car will take you to the Boston College terminal, which is the end of the line and just across the street and slightly downhill from your on-campus housing. Plan on about 1 hour from South Station to Boston College.
To Amtrak South Station: Go to the Boston College MBTA station, which is across and slightly down the street from your on-campus housing. The trolley costs $0.85, either a token or exact change (no dollar bills accepted). Take the trolley to the Park Street center and transfer (free) to the Red Line, direction Ashmont or Braintree (not Alewife!). South Station is two stops down the line. Allow about 1 hour from Boston College to South Station.
