The Department of Economics has a graduate faculty of 27 and admits about 18 full-time students per year into the Ph.D. program. The size of the program permits the department to offer a broad range of courses while at the same time enabling students to receive a good deal of individual attention. The Boston College Economics Department ranks between 24th and 26th among U.S. economics departments in the Combes-Linnemer worldwide rankings appearing in the December, 2003 Journal of the European Economic Association. With University approval and support, we are on a growth path aimed at achieving top 20 status. Recent hires include distinguished econometricians and economic theorists, adding to the established strength of the department in applied economics.
Boston College's proximate location to Cambridge and Boston make it part of the area's lively intellectual community. The Ph.D. program draws upon the rich academic resources of Greater Boston's universities and colleges in addition to those available within the Department of Economics and other departments at Boston College.
Additional information about the Boston College Department of Economics, and an on-line request for application materials, is available in other segments of the Department's web site, http://www.bc.edu/economics.
