Jesuit Scholars in a Postmodern Age
AGENDA FOR MEETING: October 26, 1997

First meeting for this year:
Sunday, October 26th, 4PM
Conference Room, St. Mary's

Since 1990, an informal and changing group of Jesuits from BC, Weston, and Holy Cross have met during each school year to discuss issues related to our research and writing, how we can learn from each other's area of scholarly expertise, and how our academic work affects us as Jesuits, individually and as a Society.

Calling attention to the "Postmodern Age" is not meant to indicate that we are all dedicated to postmodernism -- though some of us may well be -- but only to call attention to the contemporary intellectual context in which we do our scholarly work. So even if you don't define your research as postmodern, you are welcome to join our discussions.

We are postmodern enough to redefine ourselves each year. To do this for 1997-98, we will meet for the first time on Sunday, October 26th, at 4PM in the Conference Room, St. Mary's. We will discuss how we can meet occasionally during the year to learn from one another and support one another in our scholarly work.

To get us started on October 26th, we will at least briefly take up two items:

First, a short document written by Frank Clooney on "The Sources of the Jesuit Self," which some of you will already have seen among the documents on the Jesuit Scholars home page (http://fmwww.bc.edu/JSPMA/). Secondly, Jim Bernauer will tell us about the lecture series he has arranged for this year, The Foucault Circle, and how these speakers might be valuable resources to us in our own research and writing.

Please let us know if you have any questions. If all of this sounds interesting, please join us on October 26th!

Ron Anderson, S.J.
Jim Bernauer, S.J.
Frank Clooney, S.J.
Arthur Madigan, S.J.
