Tiwari, Clegg and Zou (2006) modified the formula of the upper confidence limit showing by simulations that this modified gamma confidence interval performs better than the gamma interval of Fay and Feuer and the other intervals. This method produces valid confidence intervals even when the number of cases is very small. When {cmd:by}{cmd:(}{it:varlist}{cmd:)} is specified ratios of directly standardized rates (SRR) are also computed. Modified F intervals of SRR are estimated as proposed by Tiwari.{p_end} {p}Data must be in aggregate form, i.e. each record must contain the total number of deaths (or events) and population for each stratum as follows {center:{cmd:Age strata death pop}} {center:{hline 40}} {center: {cmd: 0-44 164 47346}} {center:{cmd: 45-54 143 83173}} {center:{cmd: 55-64 202 186108}} {center:{cmd: 65-74 208 322065}} {center:{cmd: 75+ 283 362051}} {center:{hline 40}} {p}{cmd:using} {it:filename} specifies a file containing standard population weigths, typically stratified by age and optionally by other variables. This file must be sorted by the variable specified in {cmd:standstrata()}{p_end} {title:Options} {p 0 4}{cmdab:stand:strata}{cmd:(}{it:stratavars}{cmd:)} specifies the variables defining strata across which to average stratum-specific rates. These variables must be present in the study population and in the standard population file. This is most often a unique variable containing age categories.{p_end} {p 0 4}{cmd:by}{cmd:(}{it:varlist}{cmd:)} produces directly standard rates for each group identified by equal values of the {cmd:by()} variables taking on integer or string values.{p_end} {p 0 4}{cmdab:popstand}{cmd:(}{it:varname}{cmd:)} specifies the variable in the using file that contains the standard population weights. For example, if the analysis time is in years, specifying mult(100000) results in rates per 100,000 person-years.{p_end} {p 0 4}{cmd:fay} additionally displays Fay and Feuer (1997) upper confidence limit. Note that Fay and Feuer lower confidence limit is equal to Tiwari, Clegg and Zou lower limit.{p_end} {p 0 4}{cmd:dobson} additionally displays Dobson, Kuulasmaa, Eberle and Scherer (1991) confidence limits.{p_end} {p 0 4}{cmd:refrate(}{it:#}{cmd:)} specifies the directly standardized rate (DSR) to be used in the denominator when standardized rate ratios (SRR) are computed.
