Description:
The files COMPROD.ASC, COMM_*.ASC, and COMX_*.ASC contain production, import and export data for manufactured goods from 22 OECD countries (denoted by *, and listed below) over the years 1970-1985. The trade data are bilateral imports and exports between the 22 countries and each of their partners (using the UN country codes found in COUNTRY.TXT). These data were collected under the COMTAP (Compatible Trade and Production Database) project of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and are included here with the permission of that agency. Both the production and trade data are organized according to the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC), where manufactured goods begin with the digit 3, and the one-digit up to four-digit classifications are reported in the files.
It should be noted that the COMTAP trade data contains some missing values, which can appear as an import or export value of zero. For example, there are zero imports listed by the U.S. from Taiwan in 1972 in all ISIC categories within the COMTAP data, whereas in fact, imports occurred in that year. The prevelance of such missing values is unknown.

OECD Country List:
The COMM_*.ASC and COMX_*.ASC files use the following 22 country abbrevations for *:
Australia (AUS), Austria (AUT), Belgium-Luxembourg (BLX), Denmark (DNK), Canada (CAN), Finland (FIN), France (FRA), Greece (GRC), Ireland (IRE), West Germany (GER), Italy (ITA), Japan (JPN), New Zealand (NZL), The Netherlands (NTH), Norway (NOR), Portugal (PRT), Spain (SPN), Sweden (SWE), Turkey (TKY), United Kingdom (UKG), United States (USA), Yugoslavia (YUG).
The COMPROD.ASC file contains information on these 22 OECD countries, using the same three-digit abbrevations in that file.
Within the COMM_*.ASC and COMX_*.ASC files, the country codes used are the United Nations codes, provided in COUNTRY.TXT.
ISIC Codes:
Thirteen countries have production data at the 4-digit ISIC level. These are: Australia (AUS), Belgium (BLX), Canada (CAN), Finland (FIN), France (FRA), West Germany (GER), Italy (ITA), Japan (JPN), The Netherlands (NTH), Norway (NOR),Sweden (SWE), United Kingdom (UKG), and United States (USA). The remaining countries have data at the 3-digit ISIC level.
Within the COMPROD.ASC, COMM_*.ASC and COMX_*.ASC files, ISIC codes less than four digits have a hyphen appended to the end. For example, the total of manufacturing goods is indicated by ISIC code "3---". The complete list of 4-digit codes and the associated industries are provided in ISIC.TXT.
