Inter-American Development Bank Conference to be hosted at BC

Inter-American Development Bank

An international conference on the "Balance Sheet Effects of Exchange Rate Fluctuations in Latin America", sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank and the Department of Economics at Boston College, will be held on the Boston College campus in late May. The conference has been organized by Arturo Galindo (IADB), Ugo Panizza (IADB) and Prof. Fabio Schiantarelli of the Department of Economics. The conference brings together six research teams of researchers from Latin America who, with the financial support of the IADB, have gained access to firm level data on the currency composition of debt. Using these data, the researchers have empirically investigated the importance for firms' investment decisions of the balance sheet effects of exchange rate fluctuations. A distinguished set of discussants will critique the papers. A detailed agenda for the conference is now available, and the papers may be downloaded.

The conference will take place on May 23 and 24 at the Lynch Executive Conference Center, Fulton Hall, Room 513, starting at 9.00 on Friday. Interested faculty and graduate students are invited to attend.
