Health data available online

Health data sets

Each of these data sets is readable by Stata--running on the desktop or on UNIX--over the Web from within the BC network (or via VPN). You need only copy the line given below each dataset into your Stata command window or Stata do-file. After loading the data into Stata, use save to make a copy of the data on your own machine if you wish. The datasets are internally documented. If you wish to use the data in SAS or SPSS, you may use Stat/Transfer to generate the binary files for those packages. Please report any problems accessing these data to your GSA. For assistance with using the data, please contact Research Services or your GSA.

ICPSR 9915: Established Populations for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly, 1981-1987
This dataset has been extended to 1993, including followups 4,5, and 6. We do not currently have those data available. The files available here have been converted from the ASCII format in which they were distributed using the SPSS programs provided by ICPSR on the 1996 CDROM "Health and Well-Being of Older Adults" (QUEST: RA 564.8 .H43 1996x). No further processing on your part is needed to make use of the SPSS, SAS or Stata formats of these files. The Stata-format files may be directly accessed over the Web from within Stata. The codebook is available in PDF format. The available files include:

NHIS 1998: National Health Interview Survey for 1998
Documentation and questionnaires for these files may be downloaded in PDF format from the NCHS website.
