Open Faculty Positions
The Philosophy Department, BOSTON COLLEGE, Chestnut Hill, MA seeks applicants for the following positions:
1) Assistant Professor of Philosophy, tenure-track.
AOS: Philosophy and History of Science. AOC: Science and Religion.
Teaching responsibilities: Undergraduate Core and elective courses and graduate courses; (3-2 course load) plus PhD supervision, and service to the Department. Undergraduate Core: teaching responsibilities especially in the interdisciplinary program involving major texts in the history of philosophy and science (Perspectives IV Program: http://fmwww.bc.edu/pl/Perspectives.html); electives: in science and religion, symbolic logic, and areas of research interest.
Successful candidates must demonstrate commitment to and excellence in both teaching and scholarship.

2) Open-rank position in philosophy jointly with a cooperating appointment with Boston College’s African & African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS) to begin September 2008.
AOS: Interconnections between the cultures and religions of Africa, and the history of western philosophy. AOC: open.
Founded in 1969, AADS is undergoing a major revitalization. Offering over 50 courses a year, the program has 4 new core faculty members and 30 affiliate faculty working in Philosophy, English, History, Communication, Sociology, Social Work, Law and Theology. The successful candidate will join colleagues building a vibrant intellectual community in an increasingly international city.
The Philosophy Department has awarded numerous PhD and MA degrees to citizens of African nations over the past decade and seeks to enhance this program, as well as develop new courses and programs in the cultures of Africa and philosophy.
The department also supports an undergraduate core program of ethical, political and theological analysis for students engaged in service projects (PULSE Program, http://www.bc.edu/schools/cas/pulse/), and seeks candidates to teach in this program as well.
