Missing means numeric missing (that is, sysmiss {cmd:.} or one of the extended missing values {cmd:.a} to {cmd:.z}) for numeric variables and empty or {cmd:""} for string variables. See help on {help missing} for further information. {p 4 4 2} {cmd:npresent} lists the number of present (non-missing) values in each variable in {it:varlist} (or optionally in each observation). {title:Options} {p 4 8 2} {cmd:min(}{it:#}{cmd:)} specifies that only numbers at least {it:#} should be listed. Default 1. The argument may be zero or any positive integer or any expression evaluating to zero or a positive integer. As a special case, {cmd:_all} or {cmd:*} means the number of variables in {it:varlist} or, with {cmd:obs}, all the observations specified. {p 4 8 2} {cmd:obs} specifies that counting is for observations, not variables. {p 4 8 2} {cmd:piasm} specifies that {cmd:p}eriod {cmd:i}s {cmd:a}lso {cmd:s}tring {cmd:m}issing: that is, {cmd:"."} counts as missing. Some Stata users use {cmd:"."} to indicate missing. {p 4 8 2} {cmd:trim} specifies that whether string values are missing is to be determined after trimming leading and trailing spaces. For example, with {cmd:trim} {cmd:" "} (a single blank) would count as missing. {p 4 8 2} {cmd:trim piasm} would specify that e.g. {cmd:" . "} counts as missing. {title:Saved results} {p 4 8 2}If the {cmd:obs} option is not used, {cmd:r(varlist)} holds the list of variables containing more than {cmd:min()} missing values. If the {cmd:obs} option is used, {cmd:r(varlist)} just echoes {it:varlist}. {title:Examples} {p 4 8 2}{cmd:. nmissing} {p 4 8 2}{cmd:. nmissing rep78} {p 4 4 2}To see which observations have all missing values: {p 4 8 2}{cmd:. nmissing, min(*) obs} {p 4 4 2}To get details on variables with 10 or more missing values: {p 4 8 2}{cmd:. nmissing, min(10)}{p_end} {p 4 8 2}{cmd:. d `r(varlist)'} {p 4 8 2}{cmd:. npresent} {title:Author} {p 4 4 2}Nicholas J.
