Show nearby values of numeric variable --------------------------------------
^shownear^ numvar #_value [#_tolerance] [^if^ exp] [^in^ range] [ , ^sort^ > ]
Description -----------
^shownear^ lists any values of numeric variable numvar that are `near' #_value.
By default, with no specified #_tolerance, `near' means within 1% of #_value.
#_tolerance may be specified as a positive number in one of two ways:
1. as a percent e.g. ^5%^. The ^%^ sign should follow the number immediately, with no intervening spaces.
2. as a number e.g. ^0.1^. This specifies an interval of #_tolerance centred on #_value.
Remarks -------
^shownear^ is a convenience command, as everything it can achieve can also be achieved in at most two commands with ^list^ and ^sort^.
For example, the minimal
^shownear^ numvar #_value is equivalent to, for #_value > 0,
^list^ numvar ^if^ numvar ^<=^ (#_value ^* 1.01) &^ numvar ^>= (^#_value ^* 0.99)^
with a generalisation to cover #_value < 0 and #_tolerance given as a percent.
Options -------
^sort^ specifies that observations should be sorted on numvar so that nearby values are put in contiguous observations.
Examples --------
values within 1% of 21: . ^shownear mpg 21^ values within 5% of 21: . ^shownear mpg 21 5%^ values in [20,22]: . ^shownear mpg 21 2^ . ^shownear mpg 21 2 if foreign^ . ^shownear mpg 21 2, sort^
