Welcome to the CEF'99 registration/accommodation/payment form. This page briefly describes the various options relating to registration, making reservations for a luncheon package and for the conference banquet, and reserving on-campus housing accommodations. It then allows you to choose your desired options and calculates the amount due for participation in the conference.

To avoid the sizable costs associated with providing a secure e-commerce facility, and yet provide a convenient but secure mechanism for registrants to provide their information and make payment, we have arranged for the following payment options:

For either payment option, please first fill out and submit this on-line registration form for processing. Then download the payment form to be printed and completed. Finally, return the payment form by fax or regular mail to complete your registration. You will be notified if payment is not received within a reasonable time. You will not be asked to provide confidential credit-card information on this on-line form.

The fax number is +1-617-552-2308 and the mailing address is CEF99, Department of Economics, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467, USA. This information will be repeated on the payment form you download.

Registration

All conference participants must register. The registration fee includes admission to conference sessions, a welcoming reception, three continental breakfasts, the conference portfolio and materials, and one year's membership dues in the Society.

There are four categories of registration fees: standard, late, student, and commercial. The late registration fee is charged to those completing registration after May 15, 1999. The reduced student registration fee is available to currently enrolled students in academic programs. The commercial rate is charged for those registrants who do not have an academic affiliation and who are not listed on the program. The commercial rate includes one luncheon package and one ticket to the conference banquet.

Luncheon Package

You are invited to purchase a luncheon package, which consists of three luncheon tickets, for US$35.00, and which will admit you to a reserved banquet room in close proximity to the conference site. Lunches alternate between buffet and waited styles. You may specify a vegetarian alternative. The tickets are transferable, but you must purchase the package of three. Luncheon tickets are not likely to be available at the conference, so please order in advance of arrival if you wish this package.

The Conference Banquet: A Clambake Excursion

The conference banquet will be a unique journey by chartered coach and ferryboat to one of the Boston Harbor Islands to enjoy a classic New England clambake. The menu includes: Alternative menus (beef or vegetarian) are available on request.

The Clambake will take place on Thompson Island, a picturesque harbor island looking back across Boston Harbor to the city skyline. We will gather at Boston College on the evening of Friday, June 25 to be transported by coach to the wharf, from which we go by boat to the island. The boat trip takes about 25 minutes and provides wonderful views of Boston and Boston Harbor. In addition to the clambake, the site has pleasant walks and recreational facilities, and a large fixed tent in case of inclement weather. We will then return by boat to Boston, from where you will have the choice of returning to Boston College by chartered coach or being dropped off at Boston's famous Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market to continue the evening on your own. In this latter event, you may return to Boston College by public transportation or taxi.

You are cordially invited to bring guests to the banquet, and may purchase more than one banquet ticket on the registration form. Be warned, however, that only a limited number of banquet tickets will be available at the conference, as we must commit to the number of guests in advance of the conference. Order your tickets early or risk being left out.

Housing and Transportation

We are urging all conference participants to consider staying on the Boston College campus. The accommodations are located in recently constructed buildings on the lower campus, five minutes' walk from the conference hall, two minutes' walk from the Lower Campus Dining Facility (open 07:30-18:30 daily) and five minutes' walk from the terminus of the Boston College branch of the MBTA's Green Line rapid transit. There are few very hotel or motel alternatives in the vicinity of the College campus; most will involve considerable travel time, and lodging in the Boston area is quite expensive. Off-campus hotel reservations must be made on your own. In addition, Boston's "Big Dig" construction project makes driving a rental car from Logan Airport a decidedly unpleasant alternative to public transportation (US$0.85) or taxi (about US$35.00). If you stay on campus, you will not need a car. If you're driving to Boston, you will be able to park on campus.

Conference accommodations are provided in modern, air-conditioned apartment/suites in Boston College dormitories near the conference hall. Entire suites may be booked by family groups. These facilities are two-bedroom apartments with bath (with some four-bedroom/two-bath suites available for family groups). Each bedroom has two beds, and is suitable for either single or double occupancy. Telephones are available in each building but not in the rooms.

Single accommodations are available for US$55.00 per night. Double accommodations are available for US$70.00 per night per room (US$35.00 per person). Family accommodations are available for immediate family members at a flat rate of US$105.00 per night; please specify the number of persons in the family group for booking purposes. Accommodations must be prepaid in full, but you may submit your request for accommodations separately from registration if you wish. The number of rooms is limited, so please make your accommodation request at earliest convenience.

The conference has reserved these accommodations for the nights of Wednesday, June 23 through Saturday, June 26. If travelling by air within the U.S., you probably will want to take advantage of the 'stay over Saturday night' option to get the best airfare.

Free parking is available on the Boston College campus during the conference period. After unloading your belongings at your on-campus housing, please park your car in the nearby multi-story parking garage. You will not need a permit. You may also use spaces in the surface parking lots, where available, but do not park in the St. Ignatius Church lot marked "Church Parking," as that lot is restricted.

Conference T-Shirts

We are offering a stylish conference t-shirt, black with the unique CEF'99 logo in heavyweight 100% cotton, for US$12.00.

These are in limited supply, in US sizes M, L, XL, so stop by the registration desk and purchase yours ASAP!

Refund Policy

Refund requests received after June 1, 1999 will be subject to a US$100.00 fee. Other payments, such as those for the luncheon package and/or banquet, may be nonrefundable after June 15, 1999, when final counts for these catered events must be determined. Refunds for meals are not available to "no-shows".
